Biography
Dr. Amani Osman treats children and adolescents with diabetes, while also supporting their families. She has a special interest in Type 2 Diabetes, prediabetes in children and thyroid disease.
A Sudanese graduate and UK trained, Dr. Osman arrived in the UAE in 2010, establishing the Paediatric Diabetes Service at a hospital in Al Ain, before taking up her role at ICLDC in 2013.
At ICLDC, she set up the Paediatric Diabetes Multidisciplinary team at the Al Ain branch in line with international standards to improve outcomes of patients. This includes incorporating the latest technology and a comprehensive approach to help children with diabetes live their best lives and achieve their full potential with the support of medical experts, diabetes educators, dieticians and a psychologist.
Dr. Osman also established the first diabetes support group, known as Diabetes Heroes, in the region to promote psychosocial wellness and empower girls and young women living with diabetes. She advocates for collaboration with schools and outreach programmes to educate, prevent and treat diabetes and obesity-related diseases, and to enhance the vital role nurses play in diabetes management.
Dr. Osman’s passion is creating a positive, dynamic, nurturing and interactive atmosphere for young patients and their families by organizing fun activities to promote awareness, and to increase self-confidence and inclusion in the community.
