Biography
Dr Rao is a UK board certified Consultant Endocrinologist and Physician, who brings in vast experience in the field of Diabetes & Endocrinology and Internal Medicine. He joined Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC) in February 2023.
Apart from dealing with all the general aspects of Diabetes & Endocrine pathologies, his areas of special interest include Diabetes & Technology including Insulin Pump therapy, complex Type 1 & Type 2 diabetes care, Obesity management (SCOPE Certified Physician by the World Obesity Federation), Post-Bariatric surgery medical management, and lipid disorders. In Endocrinology, he has a special interest in pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal disorders, osteoporosis and male hypogonadism.
Dr Rao has worked at several prestigious institutions and held senior leadership roles both in UK and UAE, as a clinical lead for the department of Endocrinology and implemented instrumental changes. He has extensive experience in teaching and training, spending time in the UK as the clinical and educational supervisor to undergraduate and postgraduate doctors. He is also an examiner for the distinguished MRCP-PACES exam, conducted by the Royal College of Physicians (UK). He continues to teach post-graduation courses in the field of Diabetes/Endocrinology for “University of South Wales”, Cardiff, UK. He has recently been elected as Adjunct Clinical Professor at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS), Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi, contributing to undergraduate education.
Dr Rao has published over 40 papers in peer-reviewed journals. He is also a peer-reviewer for several illustrious journals worldwide, including 'Endocrine Practice' (official journal of American Association of Clinical Endocrinology, AACE).
For his valuable contributions to the field, Dr Rao has been honoured with several eminent fellowships which include, Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP - London), Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology (FACE, USA) and Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP - Edinburgh).
Working in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary teams at ICLDC, Dr Rao’s aim is to provide cutting-edge, world class, evidence-based care for the people of UAE.
