Biography
Dr. Omar Al Hariri has extensive experience in cardiology across Germany and the UAE and joined Imperial College London Diabetes Center as Consultant Cardiologist in March 2022.
After finishing medical school and his internal medicine residency at Damascus University, Dr. Al Hariri moved to Germany in 2003, where he received specialized training in cardiology at the Heart Centre of Saar in Germany, one of the biggest heart centres in southwestern Germany.
He completed his cardiology fellowship with a special focus in clinical cardiac electrophysiology (EP), and became board certified in Cardiology in 2009 (Facharzt). In 2011, he led the cardiology program and was Director of the Electrophysiology Lab (Oberarzt) at Heart Centre Mittelmosel – St. Josef Hospital in Zell, Germany. During that time, he performed hundreds of radiofrequency ablations of supraventricular tachycardias and atrial flutter, in addition to programmed atrial and ventricular stimulation procedures.
In 2013 he moved to Abu Dhabi, where he started as a cardiology consultant in non-invasive cardiology and directed the cardiology program at Madinat Zayed Hospital/Al Dhafra region. The division became fully equipped and capable of carrying out most of the invasive and non-invasive cardiology procedures including a 24/7 functioning Cath lab with a primary PCI program. He was also the Head of Cardiology Services at Al Dhafra Hospital Group and a member of the SEHA Cardiology Council and SEHA STEMI-Taskforce in Abu Dhabi.
In August 2021, he joined Mediclinic Middle East as a cardiology consultant in non-invasive cardiology where he worked until February 2022.
Dr Al Hariri is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology – Germany (Facharzt); a board member of the European and German Society of Cardiology; and a board member of the Imperial College London Diabetes Center, Abu Dhabi.
