ADSC Take Home Cup In ICLDC

Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) became this year's Play For Life champions when they scuppered Takreer's chance of a cup hat trick in a nail-bitting final that went to a penalty shoot out.

ADSC had looked on course to win but were pegged back by a late Takreer equaliser. The game finished 1-1 after extra time and ADSC held their nerve in the penalty shoot out, winning 3-1 on spot kicks.

ADSC secured their place in the final after seeing off SEHA – another team vying for a third tournament triumph, with a narrow victory in the semi final (1-0).

SEHA played hard and nearly deprived ADSC the chance of their first-ever  Play for Life cup. However, SEHA did gain some consolation for their semi final anguish, after thrashing Yahsat (6-3) in the third place match. Yahsat had earlier lost 1-0 to Takreer in the other last four match.

Meanwhile, in a bumper night, ADSC's Dawood Al Hamdi was crowned the best goalkeeper.

Takreer produced the Player of the Tournament in the shape of Abdullah Al Hamdi.

This year's top goal scorer is SEHA's Ahmad Al Najeeb who bagged ten goals over the five nights of play. This is the third time that Al Najeeb has been Play for Life top scorer.

Tournament newbee, Department of Finance came up trumps and carried home the competition's newest trophy, the Play for Life Fair Play Award, measured by the least number of red or yellow cards received, as well as good team spirit.

Event organiser, Imperial College London Diabetes Centre's CEO, Bashar Al Ramahi, acknowledged Play for Life for playing a crucial part in the UAE's commitment to a healthy lifestyle as he presented ADSC with the Champions' Trophy.
