Twelve of Abu Dhabi’s corporate companies battled it out for the second night running in the Play for Life annual football tournament, Football 2013 at Zayed Sports City.

The evening’s top goal scoring team came in the shape of the event’s gold sponsor, Cleveland Clinic. They swiped the match from ICLDC (12-0) to top the cumulative goal tally, with a total of 15 in the net over the two nights of play.

Last year’s third place winner, Etihad Rail played a nail-biting game against Play for Life stalwart Injazat ending in a closely fought four all draw (4-4). This was a turn of luck for Injazat who were seen off by ActiveLife on day one, losing five goals to one (1-5).

Another draw of the evening’s three round play was the round one goalless game between HAAD and the event’s silver supporter, tournament first-timer, ADFCA (0-0).

Meanwhile, ADNEC - the joint top goal scoring team from the previous night’s play banging five home won against IRENA scoring the winning goal in second half (2-1).

One of the closest and seemingly toughest matches of the evening was the third round meeting between Mubadala and Daman’s ActiveLife. The 30-minutes of play brought lots of action on the field but none in the net, ending in the evening’s second nil-nil outcome at final whistle.

Meanwhile, SEHA, another tournament veteran, netted not one but four late goals to finish four up on Yahsat (4-0).

However, the close of play leaves the jury very much out on who will take the cup this year.

Play for Life - Football 2013 is part of Imperial College London Diabetes Centre’s (ICLDC) public health awareness campaign, ‘Diabetes-Knowledge-Action’ under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak.
