According to the International Diabetes Federation's Diabetes Atlas in 2014, around half of the estimated 387 million people living with diabetes worldwide are unaware because the general symptoms are so subtle they can be quite hard to recognise.

Abu Dhabi's Imperial College London Diabetes Centre says that a simple test can determine its presence, stressing that early detection and the adoption of lifestyle changes to diet and exercise can help prevent full-blown diabetes.

Good health maintenance is as simple and as smart as managing a balanced diet and taking moderate, regular exercise.
