Mubadala’s Executive Director, Healthcare, Suhail Mahmood Al Ansari has been presented with an exclusive Blue Circle Pin from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) for his role in promoting diabetes awareness across the UAE.

Al Ansari accepted his Blue Circle Pin – the global symbol for diabetes, from Imperial College London Diabetes Centre’s Marketing and Public Health Awareness Campaign
manager, Carol Sansour Dabdoub at the Grand Prix circuit (yesterday, Tuesday November 12 2013). The gesture was made on behalf of IDF’s worldwide Pin A Personality campaign by Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC) in the countdown to Walk 2013, the five kilometre walkathon taking place this Friday at Yas Marina Circuit.

Al Ansari, also Chairman of ICLDC, joins IDF’s 500-plus gallery of Personalities as he received the Blue Circle Pin in acknowledgment for his steadfast support of the nation’s healthcare infrastructure and community wellness initiatives. He joined the Walk 2013 team at YAS alongside more than 2,000 participants of Train YAS, the weekly community fitness activity from ActiveLife by Daman. The National Health Insurance Company-Daman is the sole sponsor of Walk 2013 for the seventh year running.

Earlier this year, Al Ansari played a key role in the launch of Start Walking., the grass roots activation from ICLDC that encourages the community to self-organise walking groups for friends, family and colleagues. Since the launch in June, more than three million steps have been taken, with more than 60 million steps anticipated by 17,000 walkers at Walk 2013, this coming weekend alone.

“A 30-minute brisk walk every day, combined with a balanced diet, are all it takes to adopt a healthy lifestyle and help manage and even prevent diabetes. This is the smart, simple message to the community from IDCLC’s award winning campaign, Diabetes-Knowledge-Action,” he said.

Walk 2013 is a key pillar of Diabetes-Knowledge-Action, which is organised under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, and will take place from 2pm, November 15 at Yas Marina Circuit. The fun-filled programme includes a variety of family edutainment activities from mini-sporting events, to interactive health menu preparation.

According to Sansour, this year, the event’s already-proven appeal is boosted by a fresh new promotion encouraging online registration with the chance to win two tickets to an Etihad destination of choice, plus Dhs 10,000 spending money. She said that the Walk Of A Lifetime promo puts the event on track to gather a bumper crowd all eager to pace the circuit and place the spotlight on making regular exercise a daily practise.
