Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC) has been awarded the Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation and certification for high standards of care at the centre’s two locations in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

Imperial College London Diabetes Centre has been at the forefront of international accreditation in the country for some time since it became the first healthcare provider worldwide in 2010 to receive both the JCI Clinical Care Program Certification (CCPC) for Diabetes Management and the JCI Accreditation for Ambulatory Care. At the same time, it also became the first facility in the Middle East and the third around the world to hold JCI’s highly-acclaimed CCPC specifically for the clinical management of diabetes mellitus.

“Joint Commission International accreditation provides ambulatory care organisations with the processes contributing to improvements in a variety of areas from the enhancement of staff education to the demonstration of leading practices within the ambulatory setting,” said Paul Chang, Vice President, Accreditation, Standards, and Measurement, Joint Commission International.

“Once again we commend Imperial College London Diabetes Centre in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain for their efforts in becoming a quality improvement organisation, and achieving this pinnacle demonstrating a commitment to patient safety and quality.”

Suhail Mahmood Al Ansari, Imperial College London Diabetes Centre’s Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of Mubadala Healthcare, applauded the outcome.

“In a year when global attention is focused on tackling diabetes more than ever before, we are all coming together to look at new, innovative and patient-centred ways to tackle this disease, which is a national priority. This international recognition is a testament to the great work our clinicians at Imperial College London Diabetes Centre are doing to lead the way regionally in this fight and we look forward to continuing to look at how we can further our efforts in diabetes treatment, research, training and public health awareness in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and beyond.’
