Biography

Dr. Gautam Das has more than 17 years of experience in Diabetes and Endocrinology and 22 years of experience in Internal Medicine. He joined Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC) in January 2023.

Dr. Das obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Calcutta, India in 1998. He completed his MD in Internal Medicine at Aligarh Muslim University, India in 2004. His thesis was on diabetes and macrovascular disease in newly detected type 2 diabetes patients and their first-degree relatives.

He moved to the United Kingdom in 2004 and completed his MRCP in Diabetes and Endocrinology in 2011. He obtained specialist training in Diabetes & Endocrinology and Internal Medicine from Wales Deanery and was accredited with dual CCT in 2013. He also obtained a fellowship (FRCP) from the Royal College of Physicians, London in July 2017 and a fellowship (FACE) from the American College of Endocrinology in May 2018 for his outstanding contribution in the field of endocrinology.

Prior to joining ICLDC, Dr. Das worked as a Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist for almost 10 years at Prince Charles Hospital and University Hospital of Wales in South Wales, United Kingdom.

He has an avid interest in Type 1 diabetes, adolescent diabetes, transition care in diabetes, insulin pumps, obesity and metabolic diseases and digital diabetes care. His other interests include thyroid and parathyroid disease in relation to vitamin D and bone metabolism.

Dr. Das has supervised postgraduate trainees in endocrinology and has also been on the Wales Deanery teaching panel and a member of the specialist training committee for endocrinology. He has taught MRCP candidates in different hospitals and online courses. He is a regular tutor for the Post Graduate Diploma in Endocrinology and also serves as a supervisor for MSc in Diabetes and Endocrinology at South Wales University. He has co-authored a book relating to “Speciality certificate exams in Diabetes and Endocrinology” in the United Kingdom and also peer reviews original manuscripts for internationally acclaimed journals. He has been a keen researcher over the years and has published more than 50 articles and original studies in national and international peer-reviewed journals. He continues to maintain widespread academic interest in various domains of endocrinology.
