Consultant Endocrinologist and Diabetologist
Dr. Paul Peter joins Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC) with 17 years of experience as a Consultant Endocrinologist and Diabetologist. As a western-trained physician, he has specialised in educating patients and their family members about diabetes and how to manage the chronic condition.
Dr. Peter obtained his MBBS from Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai, India. He completed his research on the use of novel beta blockers in type 2 diabetes patients to improve anti oxidant capacity, from the University of Birmingham, UK. He went on to complete his specialist training (CCST) in Endocrinology, Diabetes and General medicine, thus achieving dual accreditation from the West Midlands Deanery, UK. Since 1999, he has held the distinction of being a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP), London, UK.
Prior to joining ICLDC, Dr. Peter was a Consultant Endocrinologist and Clinical Lead for Endocrinology and Diabetes services at County Durham and Darlington Foundation Trust, one of the largest Trusts in the UK, covering a population of around 600,000.Dr. Peter has worked hard to decrease the fragmentation of care that exists in many systems. He is passionate about providing seamless care for patients with diabetes or endocrine issues and believes that patient empowerment is essential for the success of any therapy.
In addition to providing specialised diabetes care for both type 1 and type 2 patients and specialised endocrinology services for conditions such as thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, and pituitary disease along with other glandular diseases, he also offers specialty foot, insulin pump, antenatal and lipid clinics. He also has considerable experience in working with young patients transitioning into adulthood through his work in adolescent transition diabetes clinics in the UK.
